The locals must not only be considered but also be involved across the stages of any effective peacebuilding programme.
This is our strive and practice at Peacepace Initiative, as well as our encouragement to global authorities in the field of peacebuilding.
Local people know where the shoe pinches, and they know exactly what or who they need to solve or assuage their situation.
Local capacities are not ineffective; they only need to be recognised, encouraged and supported.
As local peacebuilders ourselves, working with locals to build peace across Nigeria, we understand the importance of participatory and inclusive engagement, as well as the need to plan and partner with local community leaders in the areas where we work.
Empowerment is not genuine empowerment if it does not enable people to truly take charge of their destiny and own the process of their transformation.
